There must be more of a difference than just red dye between pump diesel & red off-road. The cost difference is at least $1.50/gal. My employer has two diesel forklifts; one Cat without any emission system & one Hyster with an exhaust gas regeneration system. The Cat runs like a champ & never misses a beat. The Hyster has constant problems with the regeneration system & fuel filters. The last time the repair tech came out, he made a note that the off-road diesel was stopping up the fuel & the exhaust system & strongly advised us to discontinue its use. He said eventually, the dpf will need to be removed & taken to a commercial dpf cleaning facility & advised it was not cheap.

My advice is stop using off-road diesel in your ED, or this won't end well for you. These trucks are way too complex & expensive to gamble on red diesel. You have both a potential mechanical problem & an illegal use problem that is subject to heavy fines and/or impound. Is it really worth it?

They dip your tank. Usually they have an idea who is running it before you get yanked, if not it’s a random sample.. prob due to how the truck looks (like it fell off a cliff or more dirt than paint or if you have a red fuel tank in the back or air compressor. They can’t swab your tailpipe and perform some lab test on the side of the road. That wouldn’t hold up in court bc the margin of error is too high, they aren’t chemists..sure thing is the sure result thus why it’s dipped. The truck will run it so will a 6.7. Just be wary. Dealers could tip them off too. You’ll be buying half the truck back in fines.
