26.5 mpg over 700 miles mixed driving

I purchased my truck as a demonstrator so it already had 5300 miles on her. After driving 700 miles mixed with about 60% city and 40% highway, I'm averaging right at 26.5 mpg. The EVIC was very accurate on the first tank of fuel showing 26.5mpg compared with 26.4mpg calculated. I'm averaging close to 27 on the EVIC now with the second tank of fuel. I would say I've taken it fairly easy over the 700 miles with driving aggressively only a few times. It definitely sucks down some fuel if you get on it regularly and I could see dropping below 20mpg in the city if I drove it hard.

I have a 2wd Laramie Longhorn with 3.55 gears.

How often do you get on it and hammer it? I know it can be tempting

No such thing as driving hard IN the city. People do drive hard to get OUT of the city.

Your pickup is doing what it is supposed to do. Enjoy.

Not all that often. I find myself driving with the mpg gauge in the middle screen and it helps restrain my need for speed.

That's great, i'd be too tempted to let loose with it every so often.
The screen in the middle showing how you're doing can be very rewarding when it shows you're doing well... like playing a game!

Yea, that EVIC can drive you mad with the real time fuel consumption lol. I find myself trying to get the best milage I can. Tried to hypermil with the last tank of fuel and it showed 8.6L/km on all highway driving. That changed quickly once I hit the town limits however.

Garage
I'm brand new here & I just purchased a Laramie Long Horn Ecodiesel last weekend and I have roughly 350 miles on it so far in a mix of 50-50% city/highway driving. I'm a little disappointed as I'm averaging 20 MPG. I had hoped the highway would be better, but I realize it had less than 5 miles on it when I bought it. When will the mileage begin to climb for the highway?

Should have been in the mid to higher 20's immediately on the highway. Lots of factors unknown but most of us do way better.

One thing I noticed is you can burn a lot more fuel if you drive it aggressively. I wouldn't have to try to hard at all to get 20mpg. The other thing is I use my cruise control every chance I get. Regardless of how well I try to regulate the accelerator pedal (I originally typed gas pedal...but that wouldn't be correct now would it?), putting the cruise control on seems to net 2-5mpg better. Even in town, I find myself engaging the cruise whenever I can.
