06 GC Diesel vs 14 GC diesel

I thought the 06 Grand Cherokee diesel was a Mercedes engine and of course we know the 14 diesel is a VM Moroti engine. Turns out VM Morori made both, just under different owners.

I was aware of this, when I originally found out, i was surprised to see they developed the engine for the new maserati ghibli.

Are they the same engine though? Ostensibly I would say many of the tuners and what not would be cross compatible if yes...

No, the 3.0l is brand new.
