Just purchased the truck, so far so good. Loving it, in fact.

I was reading the forums, lot of informative material, I wasn't aware. Hopefully the issue are not found in the 2015 model. Manufacture date is Jan 2015.

However this evening, my Engine light came on. I have about 600km, (360 miles). All temps are normal, excellent fuel economy.

Hopefully it a silly issue. Will talk to local dealer Service Manager tomorrow.

I did notice burning smell in the beginning, but seem to have died down. I was told it was normal.

Wasn't aware of the idling requirement.

2015 Ram 1500 Ecodiesel SLT Quad 4x4 - Engine Light On:

It was exhaust pollution issue, something to do with DEF, I think. It detected, but appears to have cleared the issue by the time dealer look at it. The problem is gone, just a record of the problem, which was reset by dealer and now no engine light. It is my first diesel and I may have shut down the engine while in regen mode, hot mode or something like that. I wasn't aware of those things, until now.

I enjoy driving the vehicle, it has the full tow package, 20 inch tires, I have put on the tunnel cover and cargo mat/skid to keep things from sliding as much. I did one trip about 400km (240 miles) towing a trailer, very high winds on route to Banff National Park and return (very windy weekend), my mileage was 24.9 mpg (imp). Which is good. Also handle the load and wind very well. Lots of people were pulling over or driving way below speed limit of 110 kph

Driving around town, I am averaging around 9 to 10 km/pl, so far. It will take several fill ups to get the real mileage, my FM database provide real life mileage, not just trips.

I was able to confirm today, that when I start off, as vehicle get momentum, I do a slight release on the diesel peddle, it shift up. It seems I can encourage quicker upward shifts by doing that.

I attach a picture of vehicle as requested. It Black forest green, you can see speckles of dark green when the sun reflects. I though I bought a black truck. My wife notice it and look up my sheet and sure enough she was right.

To show how enjoyable the truck is, my wife, who never owned or drove a pickup, loves it. That a biggie for those thinking of buying ram 1500 ecodiesel

Will keep the forum abreast of any points of interest.

take it into the dealer as a precaution. There was an issue with exhaust ending up in the cabin. If you feel uncomfrtable say something no matter what some dealer minion tells you abour normal behaviour!
Exhaust in the cabin? That sounds terrible, like deadly terrible.

If that was a previously reported problem then I would definitely take it in just to make sure you aren't going to die from carbon monoxide poisoning.

Yikes.

Relax, it just made some people sick, sucks sure but lets cull the you're going to die hyperbole, it has no place in proper discussion.

We've known about it since late Februrary... http://www.dieselramforum.com/forum...8250-exhaust-cab-starting-get-some-press.html

No, I'am not experiencing exhaust in cabin. However the dealer did find a part that was defective, they suspect from the factory. Here is what they put on the work order.

See the jpg file of the work order clip.

I decided to order the Edge Insight CS2 unit for my ram. I have a tendency to shut off the vehicle during REGEN periods.

She's a beauty! What make tonneau cover is that? Does it lock at both ends? Does it leave room on the rails to attach a ladder rack, or let you access the stake pockets?

So far so good, the folding tonneau cover. Yes, it locks with the tailgate door auto open and lock and each section has a pull cord at end side to lift each section. Comes with pneumatic support if you plan to leave it open. Most stuff that I need to access, is on the tail end and if I need to go deeper, I can flip open each section.

I also pick up a mat/skid mat for 124.00 from cap-it, they had the best prices in calgary for it, most were asking much more. Fit perfect my 6' 4" box. Protects the paint and things don't slide around. One would need to really shake the vehicle to do so. Also no water during recent rain storm.

I have to take a closer look if rails for ladder can be installed. For sure with some modification. I use articulate ladders, so it fits inside. Wouldn't need a ladder rack.. Besides my boys would call it old man stuff, ladder rack and box covers, just old man stuff. The kids, grin.

As for the Edge Insight CS2, won't ship until July 13, as it the newest product, replacing previous models. It has a new case and monitor with better graphics capabilities., etc. I have already pre-ordered it last week.

I was looking around for diesel tank lock and cap for the unit. Doesn't make sense that the option wasn't there from the factory. I may have to manufacture something nice. Will look into it later on.

Will keep the forum abreast of any points of interest. For some reason RAM TRUCK DIESEL is addictive. I mention to a friend that I pick one up (he into heavy diesel stuff), he had to hug me. lol. I get it....

He into DELETE stuff. Another subject and another time.

Someone asked if a ladder rack can be put up, while using the folding tonneau cover. The answer is yes, the holes are not covered up at each corner.

As for the gas cover, for now, I used 1 1/2 rubber cap for plumbing., trim 1/4" so that door closes completely. fits snug over the whole cap, should take care of any water or dust. Later on I will see about a door lock for diesel fillup.

Update on Edge Insight CS2. Monitor Only

I've decided against it, it lacks some minor details, such as alert on sooth and what I would prefer is the DIESEL EVOLUTION CTS2 CA EDITION - 85401. However at this time, not supported for 2015 Ram 1500 EcoDiesel 3.0L

The Edge Insight CS2/CTS2 unit is strictly monitor, lacks some features for alert, so I can get an alert when going into regen and clearing out catalytic. It does show error codes and allow clearing of code. It has it place, but want those other features.

Looked at Bulldog, GT Platinum Diesel (40420) 699.99, but not for my truck yet. I keep looking/waiting.

If anyone does preorder the Edge CS2/CTS2, be aware, they charge to your card right away, not at shipping. That a bad sign, indicating cash flow or something to me. Wait until July 13 or when they have in stock for immediate delivery.

Head up.

So far so good, just loving the truck and enjoy driving it, even in town. To soon to give figures, but fuel economy is great, way much better than 2015 Toyota Highlander and 2012 Honda Odyssey in town. Haven't done highway driving much, other than towing trailer once and planing another trip this weekend.

Nice!
Even better knowing it's better than a Highlander and Odyssey of all things.

Have you had any issues with it so far or noticed any negatives of it so far?

Absolutely no issue yet. Other then that CEL light initially. I think my fault, I wasn't aware of Passive and Active REGEN, etc. I was shutting down at the wrong time, didn't pay attention to what was going on.

The reason I'm Looking for monitor that will give me alerts when REGEN, sooth values and catalytic cleaning is to proceed. See error code and reset. It seems the Edge Insight CS2 misses on some of the features, however the Evolution CS2 has it all and more, but not compatible for the ecodiesel at this time.

Nothing negative, I'm hooked. Had lots of new cars of all sorts, this is the first vehicle I'm hooked. Puzzling. Love driving it in the city and a little of the highway I did, makes me want to drive across canada again.

Taking off to Castle Mountain camp ground in Banff National Park. My first trip there and back (Calgary-Banff-Lake Louise) gave me 24.9 miles to the gallon. After arriving home, I fill up, it was only 1/2 empty. That weekend was extremely windy all the way and back. I was towing 19 foot tandem axel Sonic travel trailer. Other trailers were pulling over or driving 60 km on 110 km highway. The towing weight was about 5000 lbs. Will take photo of hookup and post here later.

We are heading out that way tomorrow for the weekend camping/hiking. Suppose to be hot weekend.

Again only half empty tank, filled up for tomorrow (55 liter). All city driving, my fuel was 27.1. I am expecting a bit better economy on this trip, not expecting high winds. According to the gauges, so far, it seems a tank full will give me about 800-900 kilometres per tank.

I need to have more data (Dozen or two fill-ups) for real life milage figures.

My 2014 Hybrid Camry real life mileage is 42 miles per gallon, all city driving. Based on 17,000 km of fuel consumption. Can't beat that, but not as comfortable or relaxing as driving my Ram.

Edge Evolution CS2 - Edge Insight CS2

I have been corrected by their tech, their sales person was wrong. The Insight CS2 has the features that I want. All the monitoring features of the Evolution CS2 is also on the Evolution CS2. Just the Tuner is missing on the Edge Insight CS2.

However, I have confirm, that they are testing out the Edge Evolution CS2 for the 2015 Dodge Ram 1500 Ecodiesel. Tech told me to check in a month.

It my first choice. I did check out the others. FYI:

Yes, the ScanGaugeII and ScanGaugeE are both compatible with your vehicle. We actually sell a special software for the Ecodiesel on the ScanGaugeII. Here are the additional gauges that come on the Ecodiesel software:

STM - Soot Mass Level (%)
FRP - Fuel Rail Pressure (1000's of PSI)
DSR - Distance since last Regeneration (Miles)
ACP - VGT Actuator Commanded Position (%)
TNR - Total Number of Started Regenerations (Count)
MAT - Intake Manifold Air Temperature (Degrees Fahrenheit)
MTR - Mean Temperature Value of Last Regenerations (Degrees Fahrenheit)
RGN - Regeneration Active (On/Off)
EOT - Engine Oil Temperature (Degrees Fahrenheit)
C11 - Catalyst Temperature Bank 1 Sensor 1 (DPF Inlet) (Degrees Fahrenheit)
EG1 - Exhaust Gas Temperature 1 (Turbo Actual) (Degrees Fahrenheit)
EG2 - Exhaust Gas Temperature 2 (DOC Inlet) (Degrees Fahrenheit)
EG3 - Exhaust Gas Temperature 1 (SCR Inlet) (Degrees Fahrenheit)
GER - Current Gear (#)
Here are the gauges that come standard on the ScanGauge II:

MPG/KPG/MPL/KPL/LHK - Miles Per Gallon/Kilometers Per Gallon/Miles per Liter/Kilometers Per Liter/Liters per 100 Kilometers
GPH/LPH - Gallons Per Hour/Liters Per Hour
MPH/KPH - Miles Per Hour/Kilometers Per Hour
LOD - Engine Load
AVG - Average Fuel Economy
FIA/CIA - Intake air Temp (Fahrenheit/ Celsius)
RPM - Revolutions Per Minute
CPM/CPK- Cost Per Mile/Cost Per Kilometer
VLT - Battery Voltage
TFC – Trip Fuel Cost
TPS - Throttle Position
FWT/CWT - Water/ Coolant Temp (Fahrenheit/Celsius)
FPR - Fuel Pressure (reports in only 10% of vehicles)
IGN - Ignition Timing
CLSD LP/OPEN LP – Closed Loop (fuel system loop status)/Open Loop (fuel system loop status)
MAP - Manifold Absolute Pressure (reports in only 50% of vehicles)
BST – Boost (if the vehicle reports MAP)
HPR - Horsepower

I did check the ODB2 ODBII plug in, so you can run your phone/tablet as a monitor using software such as Dashcommand. One disadvantage of the IOS device, for now you need to get the WIFI version not Bluetooth, which means when you are connected to your device via WIFI, you won't be able to access Internet. (Waiting for a response of a fix if ever)

Hope it helps, anyone that is looking for a monitor. I prefer the tuner/monitor but not planning to use the tuner. I figure it will retain value more and longer.

etc...

Edge Insight CS2 vs CTS2

Just got my insight CS2. First surprise, so much smaller than expected, and it only had two screen layouts. They have the ODB2 connection in back of unit, which disallows using velcro on flat surface. Is so big in comparison with the unit. I installed it using the bottom edge, just behind the wheel. So far okay. Still testing.

On hooking it up, it showed I'm approaching regen.

The CTS2 has more screen layout, allowing more parameters. So, at this time, I can't recommend this unit, will request return and get the CTS2.
