It all started with the OG13 battling it out in home-built rock crawlers on the unique and challenging trails of Johnson Valley. The event has grown considerably since that first race, and now tens of thousands of race fans and off-road enthusiasts now descend upon Johnson Valley for The King of the Hammers (KOH), a race that blends disciplines of open desert racing and hard-core rock crawling into one of the most challenging one-day competitions in the world.

Hammertown is in full force already, with the Means Dry Lake Bed playing host to a number of activities and events during this week’s 2017 Nitto King of the Hammers Powered by Optima Batteries. Check out the live coverage here, and catch up on news and updates in the stories below.

This event is just excellent to sit and watch at home. I would feel a little choked up by the amount of dust that flies up at these competitions though so perhaps attending in person might not be the best choice for me just yet.
