Breaking in at 11K?

Towed a full-dress Harley and literally a 1/2 ton of stuff in the bed plus more in the trailer from south of Tampa to Preston Ga. and back. Truck fair flies and I normally run 73 on the interstates.

1,500 miles later I get back. Ran a solid 80 mph (radar detector working with CB) coming home. Did a lot of hunting where I trailer a quad on dirt trails and more.

Overall I showed 23.2 mpg. With 23.0 on that 80+ mph run coming back. Truck fair flies, as I said before. That towing mileage is a solid 4 mpg MORE than my Cummins and I ran 5 - 12 mph faster.

Must be breaking in.

Not that I can think of. Sure have some somewhere. This trailer is one of those metal/grated single-axle trailers with mesh ramp for a tailgate. My guess is it's 500 lbs. Maybe more??? Bike is just over 800 lbs and add another 300 lbs for stuff I packed around it. Load maybe another 800 lbs in the bed, add us and the gross is probably 8K+.

I load the Harley, coolers full of muzzeloading equipment, an old giant microwave. Trimmers, chainsaw, multiple guns and equipment for everything. My cap over the bed was piled above bed height and we had the back seat piled with guns and stuff.

I carry a lot of equipment and my wife brings mega amounts. She "discussed loudly" my 80+ mph driving speed. Seriously. I literally was keeping up with traffic.

A note is we passed many gassers towing trailers as the PIA Snowbirds are heading to Florida. It's fun to hear those gassers at such high rpm's to pull their trailers at 7 mpg.

at 7 MPG they're far better for the enviro than we could ever hope for. Look how quick they're getting rid of the **** for us ;):D
In another thread they say that you don't fully break in a diesel engine for 70k. Do you think that sounds right?
