I did a short trip of 200 miles towing a 6k pound trailer through Texas highways. I averaged in the 15-16 MPG range. I simply set the cruise control at 70MPH and went. Truck was never labored and didn't spend time searching for gears...it was actually quite serene. Posted a review of my truck so far, I have more info there.

There are areas on I-10 East of El-Paso that caused my 2500 to shift into 5th going up grades pulling a 30 trailer (gross weight truck + trailer on the scales was 16,900 lbs). Actually what I dreaded was, all the dear on the roads at night!

I just towed my 5000 lb boat for over 1600 miles and avg consumption was 13 mpg. Avg speed was 70 mph. Left the boat in FL and got 26 mpg on way back--drove 76 mph. Towing was simple. I do have air suspension and love it!

Went fishing this weekend and towed my 6800# boat for 321 miles and hand calculated 15.33 MPG. This is Mixed driving speeds mostly about 60 MPG.

But Half way through i through a check engine light. The light stayed on the whole way home and when i unhooked the boat to go see what the code was, It was no longer there???? anyone else had this?

I'm getting ready for a 2500 plus mile road trip with the new 5400# travel trailer at the end of July. I'll report back on the mileage after the trip. I towed the trailer home about 50 miles and averaged 15mpg with mostly highway, but some in town driving. I typically average 26mpg with the truck unloaded. Also I noticed I could really feel the trailer back there, not necessarily in a bad way, but definitely moved the truck around a bit. Its a 29' "ultralight" travel trailer with an equilizer hitch. But then again, I also had a 300# generator in my bed at the time. I ordered the Air Lift airbags to see if it helps with the bouncing a bit, but overall it towed well. The long trip will really give me an idea regarding how well the eco will perform towing a good sized travel trailer. With equipment and what not loaded, I expect the trailer weight to be in the low 6k lb range.

2wd, Crew Cab, Longhorn with 3.55 gears.

I just got back from my 1st camping trip last week. I have a 30' salem tt with 2 slides and a loaded weight of 7500 lbs. I penciled my mileage home at 13.2 mpg. That was in heavy rain and running 55-60 mph. My TV is a '14 ED crew 6'4 " bed 4x4 laramie with 3.55s. I normally average 23 ish with frequent all highway trips near 30 mpg....(28 - 29). Above 65 on the way to vacation showed instant around 12 and below 60 showed 14-15 mpg. Below 60 kept my rpms around 2000 and 65-70 put me up to the 2300 range give or take.

I will suggest scaling your rigs out as I was shocked when I found I was just shy of 13900lbs gross without passengers. I too have a wd hitch properly set up, yet am within 100 lbs of being over on my (rear) 3900 gawr.

Motor wise, the ed pulled the 7500 tt awesome! Absolutely no concerns with the motor and the tranny stayed right around the 200 degree mark with the max at 208. Mostly flat terrain with a few slight grades but I only came out of 6th a couple times. I did notice my boost stayed above 10 psi most if the time with that big brick I was pulling.

I have the airlift bags as well, but still have some slight bounce when hitting bumps in the road.

Just came back from camping trip to Banff from Calgary and back. I had a little over 1/2 a tank when I arrived back home. The fuel average was reading 14.5 L/km. Trailer was loaded at least 5000 lbs. Here a picture of my setup.

Around town, I seem to average around 9.5 L/KM. I only have 4500 KM on it, too soon to get an accurate mileage, but definitely better than the two Ford F150, 2015, 2014 that my boys are driving. However, it takes a lot of mileage to compensate for the diesel cost, but I'm hoping for longevity, then EcoDiesel will be a saving. Time will tell. If you are trading in every 3 year or less, than fuel economy isn't the important thing.

I get between 15 and 18 towing my R-Pod trailer over 2-3000 miles of towing this summer. It's about 3500# loaded. This is in mixed driving. Lots of mountains (CO) and a moderate amount of stop and go through towns.

My truck is a Laramie Crew cab. I also have bikes on top and a cargo basket, which probably knocks a few MPG's off.

I just towed a 21' SeaSwirl Striper for about 40 miles round trip. About half city and half highway and averaged 14.8 mpg. I would assume the boat weighs around 4800-5300 lbs and has a s**t ton of wind resistance!

Teardrop Tow West_25 MPG

In summer a year ago (2016), 4 months after the purchase of my Lone Star RAM Ecodiesel CrewCab, we went on a trip out WEST for 22 days. From Houston through the mountains of NM, AZ, CA (Yosemite) and back to Houston, and pulling a teardrop trailer (camper) that weighed about 2,400 lbs plus some gear, we got just over 25 MPG.

In fairness, I have a light foot (usually staying under 60 mph on the freeway) and I know how to use mountains to my advantage.

My experience since has taught me that pushing the ED with that same load and increasing the speed can greatly decrease the mileage. Then adding in a strong head wind, and you have much less efficiency. I took a trip with that camper to Colorado and back this Spring. Going north with a tail wind I pushed the rig between 70 & 75 mph. It got 23.2 mpg to Colorado. The trip back south was mostly into a head wind of about 18 to 22 mph. I stayed between 65 and 70 mph. My mileage dropped to 22 mpg.

I'm purchasing a new trailer with a loaded weight of 6500 lbs. It will drop but I'm sure those guys with the RAM 1500 Hemi s will covet the ED's efficiency, not to mention its longevity!
