Engine Oil

If the oil has more than 3-4 thousand miles on it I change it before a tow/haul long trip.

i ordered the manuals from dodge with a free phone call and states proper oil type etc.

Picked up my ED yesterday and am familiarizing myself with the information that comes with it. Mine has a yellow "Addendum" for the engine oil and DEF capacity. It lists the oil capacity with filter 10.5 qts and it list the oil as follows, "SAE 5W-30 Synthetic, API Certified Low Ash."

Yes I can take some pictures a little later in the day. I have yet to figure out how to do it with my cell phone.

That's a good thing to see. Knew it but never saw it in print, at least that I can remember.

why do all ecos not come with this?

Might have been a late addendum however they should have been mailed to current owners who may not have received it.

Checked up a bit. It's marketed by Champion as "Syn Gold". Checked availability and places like Auto Everything and O'Reillys have it. Price...

... appx. $12/qt. plus tax, shipping and recappable tire. Certainly not a cost option.

Goodness, Pennzoil Euro L is cheaper.

Pennzoil ULTRA Euro 5-30 is about $6 a quart. Only one issue:

Interesting. The product spec sheet has a 2/2012 date. Maybe the product has been updated since then?

Interesting. One contradicts the other.

Did not pick up that other evaluation. Also did not find a listing showing ACEA C3 or MS11106 ratings.

I sure it has been updated.

Champion Oil has announced a new motor oil for the new Ram 3.0L EcoDiesel engine to be used in the Ram half-ton pickup.
The SynGold European Low SAPS 5W-30 Motor Oil offers high-performance protection in a low-viscosity formulation. It is a low-sulfated ash, phosphorus and sulfur (SAPS) oil designed to provide outstanding levels of fuel economy performance, cleaning strength and engine protection, even during extended oil change intervals, Champion said. The motor oil specification is for this engine is MS-11106 and ACEA C-3, Champion added.

Had my oil changed on the EcoDiesel the other day at the dealership. When you change it your supposed to put the oil in, wait 15 min, then start the motor for 30 seconds and shut off. Wait another 10 min then check the oil for proper fill.

If you call the Ram 1-800 number that is on the cover of your CD you received with your new vehicle you can get the books FREE to the original owner. Received mine in about 6 days.

Took the ED in for it's first oil change yesterday (Breeden Dodge, Ft Smith AR) and they didn't charge me for it as it was the first one. They had a sign up that for $209 you could get 4 oil changes with up to 12 qts synthic and filter. Even though I like to do my own, that is hard to beat.
