Engine Oil

Was going to do the first oil change yesterday, but problem was I could not find the rated oil anywhere!

Specs are ACEA C3 5W-30 that meets Chrysler materials spec MS-11106

or

Pennzoil Ultra Euro L Full Syn.

The closest I could find is Ultra Platinum Euro L however, it is for gasoline engines, and neither has the ACEA C3 rating nor MS-11106 rating. Further exploration on the Pennzoil website did not show such oil as described in the manual exists.

This is the only oil that I could locate meeting the specs:
Mobil 1™ ESP Formula 5W-30

I took my truck to my dealer, as part of my package I get FOUR free oil changes! Hopefully after that the oil and filter should be readily available.
I think today one of the best option for engine oil is Bosch because it handles higher soot level and protects engine parts against the corrosive action of combustion gases.

If there are some objective reports or analyses of this, I would like to know about it. If it's their own claims then that settles it, it must be the best.
You guys are paying too much. Kendall GT-1 Full Synthetic Euro meets both the ACEA C3 and Chrysler MS-11106 requirements and it's available from Petroleum Service Company in 5W-30 for $58 a case (less than $5 a quart).
I just purchased my Eco Diesel two days ago From Rick Hendrick Dodge in Charleston S.C.
I asked about the cost of oil changes for this truck and I was told that Dodge covered the first four oil changes in all of the EcoDiesels but they had to be used in the first two years of ownership.
I asked how I went about getting it done and was told it was in the computer and when I came in they would enter the VIN and it would be done at no charge. I was also told I could purchase the next six oil changes for like $359. (don't quote me on that price it was 3 something) and I could purchace that at anytime before I used my forth free oil change. Was anyone else given this information or is this something just this dealer is doing?
Sounds like a dealer bonus. Some do free car washes for life, two I talked to include a lifetime power train warranty ( yes that includes the ecos as the dealer warranty is not connected to ram) , some throw in oil changes, heck I even herd of one throwing in free tires for as long you own it. At the end of the day, nothing is actually free as the cost was thrown in somewhere.
I bought mine in June and was not told by the dealer that Chrysler would pay for the 1st four oil changes. Had to be a dealer promotion.
Hey folks double-check your invoices if you have had the oil changed at the dealership.

If under parts section it lists 5166241-PA this is Pennzoil Platinum and the WRONG oil!

The correct oil for the EcoDiesel is 68001334-PB which is
Pennzoil Ultra Euro L.

This just happened to me the other day. I made the dealership drain the oil and put the correct oil in!

Holey schmoley - good catch and thanks for the information.
yep, must be dealer special. I have not seen any type of free oil changes from the manufacturer. My dealer gave me the first oil change free and I get free state inspections for the rest of my ownership. Sure would be nice to have free oil changes instead!
I got nothing.....

Hello all, I was not offered or even talked to about the maintenance schedule when I bought mine in October. I am due an oil change very soon (9250) miles right now. I found the Pennz Euro on amazon for 82$ for (2) 6qt. cases and free shipping. I am sure ofthers have mentioned it here but wanted to toss my two cents in about the oil. I have it set to ship every 4 months. I need to find the filter yet. Has anyone changed their own oil yet? I am wondering if there are any hidden things I need to know about before I attempt it. Thanks and good luck!
I did mine about a month ago. Got the filter off eBay for around 40 bucks give or take shipped. I got my pennzoil from amazon as well and scored big. They had a rebate and I ended up getting 20.00 back in rebates plus I signed up for a shell points program for fuel. I ended up getting .60 cents off per gallon for up to 20 gallons. That saved me another 12.00. So I ended up getting 32.00 bucks back!

The change itself was easy. Just like any other vehicle. Only thing I would recommend is to give it a good amount of time to drain the old oil.....I'm not kidding, I bet it drained for 15 minutes.

The cartridge filter was pretty simple as well. Make sure you use the new o ring that comes with it. Make sure you get the correct filter too....the Jeep ecodiesel filter won't work on the ram. I'll look up the correct p/n in a sec and post it.

Mopar p/n - 68229402AA. There are some knock off filters, but in my opinion buy oem until a well known name brand starts manufacturing them.

Thank you! Yes, I would like to score that kind of deal as well! There is a Shell station near me but they are always 20 cents or so higher then anyone else for diesel. I am not complaining at all for around 125$ oil change. My hemi was obviously less than that but I had to change it twice as often. I'll look for the filter. Thanks for the info! Oh, dumb question...should the motor be warm or cold when draining?? I saw something about this a few months back and can't remember. Thanks!

To be honest, anything I change oil in I always run the engine for a short time. I was taught that years ago by my dad and have continued to do so since then.

I did a break in oil change around 3500 or 4000 miles....(it's written down in my shop, so I can't give an exact), again something my dad taught me. It It overkill???....maybe, but It's how I've always serviced all of my vehicles and toys and I've always had good luck.

As we know that Engine Oil keep important role in vehicles that's why we should go with best quality Engine Oil.Nowadays Bosch Engine Oil one of the best option for quality Engine oil.
Was able to get the champion syn gold from Auto anything for just under 7$ a quart. They sell it per 6qt. I ordered 24qts enough for 2 oil changes, top offs and some to spare, online it says about 45/6qt but I called them and got the discount to 41/6qt. So I paid $165US for 24 quarts of syn gold. Free shipping and direct from champion's warehouse.

3 pack of 3 micron rated (oem spec) oil filters from Auto parts Superstore on eBay for 30$ shipped,

= $95/oil change

Might be able to get a little cheaper with the pennzoil but I've never cared much for their oil with the old wax additives.

And I'll save 50$ per filter to use an aftermarket spec filter which many of you won't.

Filter Meets spec according to the book for doing your own maintenance and according to my dealer and cna lifetime warranty it doesn't void any warranty.
