I pick up my new ride tomorrow- a new 2015 Ram ED Laramie with pretty much every option other than the Ram box.

I'm well into my 40's and have always owned a Ford truck of one sort or another, from my '65 F250 to my present day '04 F150. The only reason why I'm risking change is due to the EcoDiesel platform. I am a diesel fan, we currently own our second VW Golf TDI as well as a '13 MB GLK 250 Blutec suv. I've waited far too long for Ford to introduce a 1/2 ton diesel, I can't wait any longer.

Wish me well with my little $55,000 experiment . I'll make comments here as my journey progresses, hopefully all positive :D

Welcome!

Surprised you came over from Ford seeing how nice their current trucks are, been noticing more folks that were with ford staying with ford.

will be interesting hearing your views on the RAM coming from Ford.

I'm still a huge Ford truck fan but they just don't quite do it for me in the mpg department. In my particular situation, I'm downsizing from a ridiculously efficient car (2002 Golf TDI) and a gas guzzling truck (2004 F150 4x4) to one reasonably efficient truck. My wife has an amazingly efficient SUV (2013 MB GLK 250 Bluetec) as well so downsizing to just the Ram and the little Benz makes great sense.

With any of Ford's newest F150 options, they couldn't touch the EcoDiesel with respect to both luxury and efficiency.

If this experiment turns out to be a dismal failure, I'll be in a new F150 in the blink of an eye.

Well, time for an update :(

I have a 'shimmy' between 100-110 kph on the highway.

After getting my box liner sprayed in and my Bak Fibermax installed today, I noticed some paint flaws about 60 cm (2') above the rear driver side cab corner. Looks like there was some debris trapped under the factory paint job. FFS.

My center console lid(s) are loose.

I've put about 400 kms on it, mixed city and highway. Averaging about 11 l/100 kms. On a 110 km highway run at 118 kph, some hills and valleys, the dash meter showed 9.7 l/100 kms (29.5 mpg imp). I'm sure this will improve as I break it in.

Brought the truck in to the dealer (Cochrane Dodge), Mike in service had a look over the truck. Issues that we discussed- paint defects, loose armrest cover, shimmy at highway speeds, an issue with the rear passenger side door latch.

I am waiting for a front quarter panel bolt to come in for replacement. The armrest, latch and shimmy will be dealt with at that time.
