Wife had me stop as we passed Firkins Chrysler/Ram in Bradenton, Fl. She wanted to check on a van. I wanted a free Bagel and drink. Salesman Zach Koph, 941-748-6510, told me they got some Ecodiesel trucks in the past week. While my wife went with him, I looked around. Spotted 3 of the four. Here's one.

I keep reading where Ram cannot fill orders, cannot meet demand, stopped production and bla, bla, bla. Just read where someone complained about not even being able to see on at close dealers. I assumed there was a shortage or a "sold out" situation.

I asked Zack about that and he did not know. Just told me they all recently came in and have not sold yet. I know my deal with rebates was more than 15% off. Don't know about the rebates today but do know this dealership will offer a discounted price.

Is there a shortage or a surplus?

I've wondered all along what would happen once all the initial exuberance wore off. The way I saw it is that all the early orders would be made up of pent up demand for smaller diesel pickups and I think that has largely proved to be true so far. However where it will get interesting is when all that pent up demand dries up, once everyone who was going to buy a diesel pickup has bought a diesel pickup who do you sell diesel pickups to?

Sure there will be conquest sales, but is that enough? Don't know, but I think this is when we know for sure if the Eco is a bonafide stud (sales wise) or just a nice volume padder...

That's a common early speculation. My wife did give me some insight from her conversations with Zack, the salesman. I knew him as he was the guy I got my Ecodiesel from but that was back in February.

Zack told her they were not trucks the dealership ordered. They were just sent to them to sell. He mentioned that people asked about them, one might sell later today but most inquiries asked about a more basic model. Seems these are all "fancy". Do know from the three I looked at, they were leather, one had those tool boxes, all were dual exhaust and all were more pricy than the one I ordered and bought.

Maybe it's just a way for Ram to get rid of some high-end inventory? Sack told her he would gladly ship one to a buyer out of town.

It will be interesting to see if they sell and/or it's an isolated situation.

They sure are "fancy". My wife looked at one and wanted to cuddle on that interior.

1-800-227-0757 is the Incentive Number. Think there's something like a $2,000 Southeast discount and probably more, including that finance bonus (where you can pay it off quickly and get the bonus).

After you figure out all those incentives and deal at invoice/no dealer fee, you can start negotiations. I got around 18% off total on mine. Not sure what you can do on one of these "fancy" ones but surely there is room.

Could be moving slow because most truck guys want something in between the high end and low end.
I see them on the lots around here in sourthern ontario and they are all loaded. I didn't want all the comfort features and expensive name plates so I ordered mine. My feeling is if you can afford all those options, you can afford the gas in a 5.7 so the loaded diesels sit there.

FYI...ALL of the trucks they had in stock when I did this post were sold. I met the fellow that bought the one I pictured. He saw the picture, went there and bought it.

Think they got two more so they are not out as of a couple days ago.

No.

Do seem to remember I was told months ago that if I sent someone...

Well, I did not really "send" him. He saw my picture and story, went and bought it.

Funny you asked because I just happened to be there getting one of my free oil changes. Met and asked the salesman. It was NOT Zach that I had mentioned. He gave me some of his cards.

I deposited them in the round file.

Typical launch strategy is to load up new models, all the eco's I have seen have stickers 45K and up, basically loaded bighorn and or laramie's. Even with incentives these trucks IMO are massively overpriced

The dealership I purchased mine from had only two 2014's left last month, I bought the Big Horn and the SLT is still there. He said he others they had sold within a few weeks of being there as far as I know.
I have only heard of the shortage's being that Motori is going to "up the output of the EcoDiesel engine" to accomodate the current demand, that could all just fall off once the demand is satisfied however.
