Happiness is Relative

Fellow stopped to pick up a bed my wife was selling. The man had a new Nissan V8 pickup. Poor guy spotted my Ecodiesel in the garage. Then he messed up and asked about it.

Never drive a Nissan V8 and find out about an Ecodiesel. The man was happy driving over. He pulled a little trailer and told me he was getting 14 mpg. I did not volunteer. He asked what I might get pulling something like his trailer.

Sad is not hard to see. I did not provide any more information than he asked. All he could say was gas was cheaper. Silly boy...to run gas for him is way over $500 per 10,000 miles more.

Another friend has a 2012 Hemi. He would laugh towing his travel trailer when telling me about the 7-8 mpg he gets. Stupid man asked my about my recent toy-hauler pull of about 1,800 miles.

Now he's not laughing.

Happiness is relative to what you know. Stay stupid and uninformed my friends. You might be the better for it.

You would think so but not really. I feel sorry for those living with mental illness.

I seem to draw as much criticism as envy. Parked beside a proud new owner of a hemi limited at sam's the other day. Without provocation he immediately began breaking bad on my ed for lack of power & the high cost of diesel. Proclaimed he got 24 mpg @ 70 mph & fuel didn't cost him $4/gal. I simply asked if he'd found anyone that believed that bs & strolled away with a big smile!!

LOL I had a feeling that would happen, not surprised some HEMI owner looked down on the diesel and just had to make that known. Wack
I know they have improved hemi fuel consumption since my 2008 however the best I could ever do with that truck (3.92) was about 21mpg @ 55mph and playing all of the hills correctly. I don't believe 24mpg @ 70 with a new Hemi
Son and his wife are now visiting from Pennsylvania. We all rode in my Eco from south of Tampa Bay today to the Lowery Park Zoo in north Tampa. I fueled going up and answered his questions. He was all over my hand calculations for the last 600 miles.

He watched that EVIC on secondary roads and tight city traffic jam going to the zoo. More questions.

Took the interstate back home. Arrived showing 28.1 mpg since I fueled. He has a Charger with Hemi at home but drove a new Chevrolet Equanox to get here. It got 19 mpg from Pa. to here. We talked.

He's looking for a Grand Cherokee "left over" when he gets back. Of course, he wants the V.M. Moteri diesel version. Can't blame him.

I have two friends with 1500 Rams and the Hemi. One is a 2012 and the other a 2013. Both are 2-wheel drive. That story of the Hemi fuel mileage is BS and it's worse if you try to tow.

Education can be a humbling thing.
Pretty funny that you had this experience. I think it would have been funny to be there and see this whole thing go down. Who buys a Nissan truck at all though? If you are buying a truck, it seems to me the only option is American.
10%, How the **** are you getting 29.5 mpg? I cant even get that on highiway at 60 MPH on cruise, by myself, nothing else in the truck. What trim package do you have? tire size, etc.

there is also toyota, their tundra is great, but japanese car makers don't have near as much of the truck market as american brands.

Gadfly2 ... You serious?

Ran with 4 in the truck today to the beach on Anna Marie Island outside Bradenton. Nothing but miles and miles of traffic. Returned and son watched 27.2 mpg. Now he will try and get one after he returns home to Pittsburgh next week.

Think I said 28 on that post, not 29. No matter. On the interstate running 75 - 80 mpg I did 28 mpg average.

Truck is a quad cab Tradesman, 3:55's with ARE full cap over the bed. Yes. It is 4 x 4.

10% what's the stats on your trailer? I may be buying similar truck with the 3.55s and wondering about your trailer. Mine is 21 foot by 8 foot and weights in at 5k. Also you have or recommend air bags? My hitch weight is about 400 lbs. Thanks.

David
Answered it in my response to you. Mine is a toy hauler. I load two Harleys in there that weigh close to a ton together with all gear. Whole thing can weigh 7,000 lbs but my normal load is about 6,000 lb.

I tow too fast. Normally run the speed limit while towing. That means 70 - 73 mph on Florida and Georgia Interstates. Fuel mileage would be better if I slowed down. High trailers have a lot of wind resistance. That's the big factor and more important than weight or length of the tow, within reason.
Just read your other post, thanks. I'm down sizing from a Cummins 1 ton dually Ram and trying to get this right. I had heavy loads with my 3500 so even coming from a bigger load I am still on a learning curve. The Cummins is great but my truck is way over kill for this trailer. I can't imagine what MPGs in the 20s will be like. Hope the dealership gets the truck in about 2 weeks. Have not bought yet but will. Thanks.
