Here's a description of how I record my fuel consumption and calculate mileage. I get my data in kms and litres and convert it to mpg in US gallons and Imperial gallons just for fun.

Every time I fill up, I record the number of kms traveled as recorded in Trip A and write it on the fuel slip. I also write down what the evic calculated for Litres/100 kms to have as a comparison. Then I reset Trip A to 0. That's all I have to record. I save these slips in the truck till I have 6 - 10 of them or until I want to check my latest fuel consumption. About every 3 - 4 weeks I take the slips in the house and type the data into a spreadsheet.

The spreadsheet is laid out like this;

Column A - date I bought the fuel from the receipt
B - Number of litres purchased from the receipt
C - Kms traveled from the receipt
D - Dollars spent from the receipt
The rest is calculated
E - Column B x 0.219969 to give me Imperial gallons used
F - Column B x 0.264172 to give me US gallons used
G - Column C x 0.621371 to give me miles
H - Column G / Column E to give me miles per Imperial gallon
I - Column G / Column F to give me miles per US Gallon
J - Column B / Column C x 100 to give me litres per 100 kms
K - Evic litres per 100 kms from the receipt
L - Column D / Column C x 100 to give me cost per 100 kms
M - Notes - things like "all city" or "all highway" or "towing the boat"

The cost per 100 kms helps me compare the fuel cost of this truck to my other cars, one takes regular gas, one take premium gas. I have three tabs in the spreadsheet formatted the same with the same formulas. One tab for each car.

I know there are lots of apps out there, but I like to know what the spreadsheet is doing and most of them are either US or Imperial measurements and I like to see both.

Just check to make sure that your odometer is accurate using a GPS and Mile Markers (Hwy). They can be a bit off sometimes...if you want to be totally accurate. Good system tho!

How does your hand Cals compare to your EVIC over 10 fill ups?

The evic is always a little more generous.

This is the difference between hand calc and evic. Positive means the evic was high. This is litres per 100 kms.

Good point, i have noticed that people do track things manually as well and then compare to what the vehicle records which at times aren't consistent, this i have noticed with other vehicles.

That's a little much for me. I don't have an easy way of doing that from tank to tank. I have to trust that the odometer is correct, I trust enough to allow the used car market attache a value to the truck based on this reading, so I'll go with it for fuel mileage too. I agree that it may not be correct, but I believe it will be consistent.

This looks like about 2% difference which is pretty good, all things considered.. I will be happy with an evic that is within 2%. The speedometer is not much better than that.

really only takes a highway run of 10 miles...push odometer at one mile marker and go at least 10 miles to that mile marker. If you odometer reads right on 10 u r good...if not, say 10.7 miles then you adjust all your mileage records by the 7%. Not every tank...just one time to check Odometer
