well thats not good... let us know what happened
Welcome to the forum and sorry about your truck. Did you have a bitter Edmonton morning?

We'd love to know how you make out.
Well got her back yesterday of course towed to shop friday -25 no start they never got to it until tuesday -7 mechanic hit the remote no problem slight delay for glow plugs and fires right up??? It don't take a rocket scientist to start a truck but of course they treated me like a moron, you never stepped on the brake, yes I did,you never plugged it in,yes I did, etc well we won't charge you anything this time but if you bring it back with nothing wrong again we will have to charge you an hours time????? How do you spell frustrated.... oh well she hasn't gave me a moments grief since but in the back of my mind I have this little voice saying "its going to happen again" I feel like a teenager with his first crush on the teacher all is good and I really do like her! I have almost 500 k on her now can't believe how fast that adds up. I did find the heater cools considerable while driving on hwy so next on the list is a winter front.

Cheers Randy
V8deuce...please keep us posted with cold weather starts. I've never owned a diesel but have a few buddies that do and have boosted them the odd time at camp with my gasser when they can't plug them in. Not a big deal, a little inconvenient but makes my think maybe I should have a larger or 2 batteries. My 98 has a second battery platform but so far never had a need for it. I see the odd post speaking to starting issues with the same comment you made about the dealer questioning how you start the vehicle...frustrating isn't it.

I am holding back until we get through this winter to see how folks make out with the cold. As far as the other issues I've read about on this forum...haven't seen any real deal breakers to speak of.

Good mention about winter fronts...I would not of thought about that so this info could save me from having an issue down the road.

Cheers
Brian...
I thought the active grills got rid of the need for cardboard fronts?

They only cover half the rad and it's more for keeping the temp at a higher level for better fuel milage. The problem is the whole engine compartment cools down even the heater hoses so by blocking that cold air it keeps it warm enough that the heater stays at a normal temp.

It's always good to hold back if you can but this is not like the 5.7 gas oldsmobile engine that gm converted to a diesel that was a disaster this one has run for a few years in Europe and a couple years in the jeeps here in canada. My only problem so far, not counting the no start issue, is now I can never go back to a 3 or 4 speed trans!! after only a few miles in this truck I'm very much liking it drives so smooth and quiet that it's very hard to tell it's a diesel !! And also quick I know it don't set any speed records but coming out several diesel powered trucks this is a joy to drive.
