Hi, I just purchased a 2015 ecodiesel, currently living in Nevada and will be moving to Alaska in October. So far I love my new truck. I am concerned though about the winters in Alaska with the DEF system. I only have put 500 miles on it 80% of those are highway, fuel economy is around 22. Not sure if that's normal, I occasionally have a lead foot but mostly 75 mph on cruise. Looking forward to all the excellent information on this Forum. I disn't have a block heater installed from the factory, but I have read online that all e/d have a factory block heater and that I just need the pigtail....is that correct?

It has the block heater installed, you may just not have the wire. If you do, the plug will be just behind the passenger headlight. I have a 2014 and just went through an Ontario winter. While nothing like Alaska, my ED did great. Always started. I used the block heater a couple of times and I could tell the difference. It started easier and warmed up faster. I let my DEF get below a 1/4 but when I filled it, the guage did not move until the temp got above freezing. The truck never stopped running. I'd say, keep the DEF over 1/2 in the cold months.

Thanks for the information, I'll have to look for that wire, I don't believe I have it. Btw I work in Alaska oilfield our light duty mechanics say to keep the DEF tank around half, to account for expansion if it freezes. Thanks again.
