Ok, so I hear so many different things about when to change your oil in the diesel engine. It says on the sticker on my windshield at 3000 miles. I have 4 free oil changes and I want to use them wisely. What are your thoughts.
Well that must not be an official sticker, as everyone noted above 10,000 miles is what's in the books. I changed the oil out at 7000 miles, I actually wanted to do it sooner (5000 miles) for the first two oil changes.
The truck has a computer that monitors how you drive and will tell you when you need to change the oil. Documentation says it could be as high as 10k but that's for perfect conditions. I expect something lower than 10k but much more than the standard 3k.
You can get a read out of "oil life remaining" on your dash, maybe someone can coach you through that.
If the sticker on your windshield is from the dealer or an oil change place, they only have an incentive for you to come back and spend more money with them. I would follow the oil monitor on your truck and I would change the oil a little early to make sure you don't go over the mileage so you stay within the warranty.
