I have a 2014 eco diesel 1500 Ram and it makes a odd noise when shifting gears when the truck has been running for awhile. My question is, what is the proper sound the shifting of gears should make? do you hear anything? because I hear an almost grinding sound that I'm not used to with other cars/truck.

Thoughts? could I be low on trans fluid or something.

I have almost 20,000 kms or 12,000 miles approx.

Are you talking about changing gears w/gear shifter knob? Park, neutral, drive, and reverse or do you mean accelerating 1st through 8th gear? I have a little jolt or noise when I shift from park to drive and reverse, but accelerating 1st to 8th gear is really smooth on mine. Grinding in anything is not usually good.

If it's making a grinding noise while up shifting or down shifting, you better get it in to the dealer asap. Something isn't right. A Co worker has a new hemi ram and had his tranny replaced under 4000 miles. Ram has had a bad reputation in the past on trannys, but so far this new tranny I've herd of very few issues. ....actually his and your possible problem are the only I've herd of.

^ Good tip, and being something tranny related, i'd hate to hear about someone here having a transmission issue that got so bad it left them stranded. Best to get it looked at than to have it lead to some extreme problem.
