RamMan reported that dealers can now order the Ram 1500 diesel, which has garnered Motor Trend’s Truck of the Year award for the 2014 Ram pickup. The truck uses a 3-liter VM diesel to achieve best-in-class fuel mileage, with long maintenance intervals and high torque. Testers, including Allpar’s Bill Cawthon, have reported that the diesel is responsive, quiet, and pleasant.
While mileage figures are not yet available for the Ram diesel, most expect it to come in at 27-28 mpg highway, above any competing pickup; the Ram 1500 HFE, with V6 engine, is rated at 18 city, 25 highway. The Hemi V8 version, which has the highest tow ratings, is rated at a peak of 15 city, 22 highway (with the eight-speed automatic and rear wheel drive). Ordering may not be open in all regions yet.
