Like Toyota and GM, Ram is releasing new tow ratings for their pickup trucks that are based on SAE J2807 testing. That will make the Ram Truck the only full-size pickup truck manufacturer to adopt J2807 towing practices across all three segments: 1/2-ton, 3/4-ton and 1-ton. Ram truck maximum towing capacities remain unchanged or improved under SAE J2807 standards.

J2807 is a standard set of tests devised to make sure that each company's advertised tow ratings were found using the same formula.

“Because our customers asked for it, every single 2015 model year pickup truck Ram sells will come with a trailer-tow rating achieved using SAE’s J2807 testing protocols,” said Reid Bigland, President and CEO, Ram Truck Brand. “No other automaker can make that claim.”

Important Information

THANKS!

This is important information as it will allow customers to really compare the towing ability of various brands and models of pickups to a standard.

Ford and Chevy, maybe others, publish claims about their towing capacity to make their vehicles seem "better" or more desirable for towing than others. Of course, there's no standard so validity is almost non-existent. What is supported is advertising to increase sales of the product with no measure to support the claim.

It will be real interesting to see the results in the future.
