One of the big draws to the Ram EcoDiesel is its excellent fuel economy. Indeed, when compared to the competition, the EcoDiesel does live up to that accolade.
AutoGuide took the time to compare the fuel economy of the Ram EcoDiesel and the Ford F-150 2.7 EcoBoost. First let me just lay out exactly the engines that each vehicle is running on.
Ram
3.0L V6 Diesel
240 HP, 420 lb-ft of torque
Tow Capacity: 9,200 lbs
Payload: 1,610 lbs
Ford
2.7L Turbo V6
325 HP, 375 lb-ft of torque
Tow Capacity: 8,200 lbs
Payload: 2,160
Putting these two vehicles to the test, it turns out that the EcoDiesel is even more efficient than the manufacturer claimed figures. It came in at 26 mpg. Unfortunately, the Ford F-150 didn't even come close to the official median. It came in at 18-19 mpg.
When it comes to hauling, the Ram also wins out. It felt more planted than the F-150 that had a lower weight which makes it fidget and feel not as stable on uneven roads.
When it comes to tech the Ford does win out, and it also is cheaper than the Ecodiesel, but if you are looking for capability and fuel economy, the Ram EcoDiesel is your truck.
