I just filled up the other day at about 800+ miles. I'm using a car maintenance app to track my fill ups and it gave me a reading of 24.4, with 95% being city driving. Fuelly says 24.2. Also my DEF needle has barely moved off of the full line.
Mine shows 26 with mostly city/back roads driving. My first trip home from the dealer was mostly interstate. I parked it in the driveway with 30 mpg showing on the gauge. What a tease that was.
All the numbers that people are posting up here seem to be in line with what Ram said the Ram 1500 EcoDiesel would do. In fact you guys are getting even better than what Fuelly says, which is pretty cool. Are you guys happy with the numbers that your Ram 1500 Ecodiesels are posting?
I am happy so far with the mpg, especially since most of it is city miles. I can't wait to get it on a long highway trip. I was supposed to go on one this past weekend but we ended up not going.
stop and go traffic is killer and with the way people drive there's no way to just go at a decently slow pace when traffic slows down, just all stop and go.
Hwy has been 70mph with cruise. City has been a moderately aggressive in acceleration for ring seating. IMO, I believe a little faster accel to "planing speed" helps mpg rather than a long slow burn up to your desired speed.
Most of my roads in SE Michigan are 45mph so I run around 50mph. Trans will not shift to 8th gear unless I coast a second or two at that speed and then it will hold 8th down to about 47ish then back to 7th. I coast as much as I can and don't care what people behind think. Most of the time they will pass me and screw me up as I will have the light timed perfectly.
Good stuff, doing harder break-in's do help to build pressure to seat the rings, heard of it many times, i used to do soft break in's, now it's all hard.
Fuelly account below. There are 18 diesels out there however only 3 have enough fill ups (3) to post publicly. You have to select "all vehicles" in order to see the 18.
I am seriously thinking about buying a ram ecodiesel to commute with. I put on 85 miles a day, 5 days a week. Been doing it for years with a car, but I hate cars... I currently average 7.4 l/100km or 31.79 mpg and had been thinking about buying a second vehicle (truck) and keep running my car. But if the ecodiesel gives the fuel mileage you are talking about it may be able to give me everything in one vehicle. I run about 75 miles of that at 60 mpg and the other 15 at brief city 40 mph. How do you feel the ecodiesel would do with that commute? I think I would get an 4x4 Outdoorsman crew if I was to pick today.
so i was bored and i calculated how much mileage i get out of my 200k mile winter beater 4 cylinder. with the old engine and all the revving to get to speed. i get 20mpg.. thats 50/50 city and highway.. holy crap that is terrible mileage for a 4 cylinder
I also do a lot of highway miles, thankfully, i hate driving in the city, it's horrible.
Plus seeing how great your mileage is on highways makes you even happier that you take highways mostly
ok doesn't give the option on the phone app had to do online.
